CNC Turning Services

CNC turning is the primary route for rotational parts whose functional dimensions are diameters, shoulders, bores, tapers, threads and concentric relationships. Bar-fed work and individually chucked blanks have different limits, cost drivers and datum strategies.

Diameter, length and workholding

Maximum diameter and length depend on the selected lathe, chuck or collet, unsupported length, material rigidity and whether a tailstock or steady rest is required. Long slender shafts may need staged machining and straightness checks. Send the complete drawing for an equipment-specific envelope review.

Concentricity, runout and threads

Features turned in one clamping generally provide the best coaxial relationship. Secondary milling, reversing the part or gripping a finished diameter adds datum-transfer risk. Define the thread standard, class, hand, depth, gauge requirement and mating part rather than specifying only a nominal diameter.

Inspection for rotational parts

Micrometers and bore gauges suit diameters; indicators evaluate runout; thread gauges confirm functional thread acceptance; roundness or profile equipment may be required for special callouts. State whether circular runout, total runout, cylindricity or concentricity is actually required.

RFQ information to provide

  • 3D model plus a revision-controlled 2D PDF drawing.
  • Material grade, condition, quantity and delivery destination.
  • Critical dimensions, datums, fits, threads and surface roughness.
  • Heat treatment, coating, masking, cosmetic or packaging requirements.
  • Requested material certificates, dimensional report or first-article scope.

Frequently asked questions

Provide controlled 3D and 2D data, material and condition, quantity, finish, critical characteristics, inspection documentation and target delivery. State any approved alternatives or supplier restrictions.

Tolerance is reviewed by feature against size, geometry, material, setup, process sequence and measurement. The quotation records assumptions; it does not extend one tight value to every dimension.

Selected dimensional reports, first-article records or material documents can be included when the required scope and format are stated before quotation.

Not necessarily. Machine ownership and partner-supported processes are distinguished during capability confirmation where they affect confidentiality, quality or delivery.

Upload the model, drawing and project requirements through the Request a Quote form. Complete RFQs are targeted for review within one business day, subject to complexity and clarification.
